Recently, the Lee Avenue Elementary School PTA sponsored a Scholastic Book Fair, where students could explore and purchase some of their favorite reads. This is one of two book fairs the PTA hosts for the students throughout the school year. The next one will be held in the spring.

Hicksville Middle School students recently enjoyed spending time during their lunch period participating in a Connect Four Tournament. In December, students will have the opportunity to play chess during a lunchtime Chess Challenge against fellow classmates as well as the school’s leadership team.

Burns Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville held a mini marathon on Nov. 15 around the school’s back field to get the students moving and hearts pumping. Students, staff and some family members join in the fun while others cheered from the sidelines around the makeshift run route.

At the Nov. 20 Board of Education meeting, Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton began his report by highlighting several outstanding students including this year’s valedictorian, Kailash Thayavally, salutatorian, Mandeep Kaur and three students in the district’s college level American Sign Language class, Riley Blitz, Sanaa Haroon and Kylie McLaughlin.

Reading and AIS students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at Old Country Road had an exciting field trip on Monday, November 4th. They visited the Canstruction Long Island exhibit at RXR Plaza in Uniondale. It is a display of structures made from canned foods. The best part is that the cans are donated to feed families all over Long Island.

Hicksville Middle School students had fun during a recent lunch period in the school’s Maker Space decorating Halloween crafts with fellow classmates and Assistant Principal Vinh Nguyen-Horan. More organized lunchtime craft activities and games are planned for the months ahead with other members of the school’s leadership team.

Hicksville High School is proud to announce the top two students for the Class of 2025. Congratulations to valedictorian Kailash Thayavally and salutatorian Mandeep Kaur. Both have contributed significantly inside and outside of their school community.

At the Oct. 23 Board of Education meeting, Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton highlighted board members for their continued dedication and commitment to the district and community in honor of School Board Recognition Week.

Old Country Road Elementary students in Hicksville recently took part in a special “Box Out Bullying” assembly where they learned to confront bullying through a live interactive theater performance. The performance made the students laugh, cheer and think.

Students, staff and families of Old Country Road Elementary’s school community came together to celebrate International Night hosted by the school’s PTA on September 27. Teachers, students and their families gathered around the outdoor blacktop to showcase their cultures in various ways.

Hicksville Middle School students in Laura Amundsen’s Family and Consumer Science class recently made playdough. In addition to learning to work in the kitchen, the project is also teaching the students how to be good citizens by donating the playdough to the district’s Pre-K classes to enjoy.

At the September 18 Board of Education meeting, Hicksville Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton highlighted Hicksville High School students Haley Gonzales and Kimberly Widjaja. Both students were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the Hicksville School Community.

Students at Old Country Road Elementary School in Hicksville recognized Patriots Day on Sept. 11 by wearing red, white and blue to show their appreciation for their heroes.

Hicksville School District welcomed back students for the 2024-2025 school year on September 3. Students arrived at their schools, eager to meet their new teachers and classmates. The energy and excitement of the new school year was felt throughout the day. The district wishes all students and staff a successful school year!

On August 21 and August 27, Hicksville Public Schools welcomed 20 new faculty members for the 2024-25 school year for two days of learning and training prior to beginning their careers with the district.

Hicksville Public Schools welcomed three new administrators, Dr. Catherine Carella- Dean, ELA, Reading and Library Supervisor, Dr. Teresa McGrath, Interim Science, Social Studies, Home and Careers Supervisor and Christopher Uccellini, Principal at Lee Avenue Elementary School for the 2024-25 school year. The three each bring unique experiences to their roles that will support the academic, social and emotional needs of the Hicksville students.
