Five Things Students Should Know
Stepping Into Fifth Grade

1. Multiplication and division facts 0 to 12.

2. Sustained reading for at least 30 minutes per day.

3. Counting change from $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills.

4. Elapsed time to five minutes

5. Read and follow directions (Ex. recipes, putting things together, maps).

You can practice division and multiplication facts with your child by creating flash cards on index cards. Just spend about five to ten minutes working on these items each day. Also, join the Hicksville Public Library’s Summer Reading Program to provide exciting books to read.
